Not having that limit is one of the reasons why I use robocopy to backup profile folders before reimaging machines. I always use an elevated cmd prompt too. KeithMoon is an IT service provider. I've not encountered an issue with path lengths with robocopy. I am currently syncing a large number of server shares to another server and having no problems with what appear to be some very large paths.
To avoid the issue with characters, also shorten up the path where you are xcopying to so that it is as short as possible. Such silent and forever loss really makes xcopy itself only slightly better than nothing for backups.
Thanks for the quick reply.. The customer I get the error with Robocopy must be something else, it is just one folder but way down in many others, have not been able to find why the access denied is there, running as domain administrator.
Counted one time and thought it passed the I will give the Robocopy a try. The other thing, I have mapped the drive to the network hard drive that has a Public folder. It shows in explorer as the O: but from command prompt it will not see it. This just started with the new Win I added the IP of the network hard drive to the Host file but that did not help. I ask them to try to use shorter names and folders. Coming from DOS 3.
Once I do this pc swap, I will not be back at this customer until something breaks, maybe 6 months maybe year or two. Any ideas? Improve this question. So which command gives the error? Please edit your question to include your batch file and tell us which line gives the error. But in the third one it doesn't stabilize and sometimes it pops out the error but sometimes not. I guess that folders and long sub folders may be the problem due to the size of characters, but it's just an assumption.

Just FYI. Commenting on gunslingor's recommendation to use rsync within WSL Linux. It works, and you get everything that comes with rsync.
